Throughout, I've always believed that esports is a world for young people because the esports industry is extremely competitive! Players not only need to have excellent hand speed, reflexes, and talent but also undergo a series of high-intensity training. Let's talk about hand speed and reflexes first. A report once pointed out that a person's reaction speed starts to decline at the age of 24. If a 39-year-old player is compared to a 24-year-old player with equal skill, they may be about 0.15 seconds slower. So, older players, even if skilled, cannot maintain the reaction speed of their youth. Then there is the high-intensity training. As a professional player, they need to undergo nearly 12 hours of training almost every day, with very short rest periods. So, esports can be considered a game for the youth, and it's not as popular among older individuals.

But not being popular doesn't mean it's impossible! Recently, there is a professional esports team with an average age of 69, making them a rare 'senior esports group' in Japan! This senior esports group is named 'MATAGI SNIPERS' and consists of 8 grandpas and grandmas aged from 66 to 73. Actually, MATAGI SNIPERS is not the only senior esports group in the world, as in Sweden, there is a Silver Snipers esports team with an average age of 70+. This Swedish team has participated several times in DreamHack, one of the world's largest gaming esports events, and has even won world championships.
Looks like now you can really say, 'Bring it on, grandpa and grandma!' So, I say as long as you don't admit to being old, no one can call you old! Age is just a number; don't let time bind your life. As long as you desire, it's never too late. Just like if you want to start playing esports now, it's not too late either. |
