Recently, a Japanese anti-gambling addiction group accused MGM Resorts International of gaining ""illicit profits"" through the acquisition of the online gambling company LeoVegas and demanded the revocation of its Integrated Resort (IR) license in Osaka. In response, MGM Resorts publicly refuted these claims.
The group alleges that LeoVegas illegally provided online gambling services to customers, including Japanese citizens, and that MGM Resorts profited from its illegal operations through the acquisition of LeoVegas. It demanded the cancellation of MGM Resorts' Osaka IR license approval.
MGM Resorts issued a statement on its official website, stating that these allegations are baseless and may be misleading. Prior to acquiring LeoVegas, MGM Resorts required the platform to block Japanese users, and the acquisition evaluation did not include Japanese operations.
In September of last year, MGM Resorts acquired LeoVegas for $600 million, showing optimism for its potential in global digital gaming business. MGM Resorts was chosen as the IR partner in Osaka, with plans to develop a comprehensive resort destination in the area.
According to industry analysis, the accusations from this group might have motivations to hinder MGM Resorts' Osaka IR project, but their arguments lack substantial grounds. MGM Resorts' official rebuttal helps dispel external doubts. |
