World's first "Crypto City – Satoshi Island," where everyone uses cryptocurrency. Moreover, all citizens have NFT identities, and over 50,000 people have applied to live on the island! Can you imagine what an attempt with a virtual currency would be like?
On the island of Vanuatu in the Pacific, there is an 800-acre private island. The owner of this island is Satoshi Island Holdings Limited, which plans to build it into "Satoshi Island." The goal is to become the world's cryptocurrency hub, with houses on the island starting at $60,000. Land ownership will be tokenized and divided into NFTs, as will citizenship. The Satoshi Island project recently received approval from the Vanuatu government and is set to open in early 2023, with over 50,000 people applying to become residents of the island. According to the official Satoshi Island website, it is a private island covering 32 million square feet. The project aims to create a home for cryptocurrency professionals and enthusiasts and develop into a democratic place based on cryptocurrency and blockchain.
The island's overall planning and development will be run by the renowned Hong Kong architectural firm James Lucas. Every household on the island will become an NFT for Satoshi Island, and land will be tradable. For traditionalists, NFT holders can also convert their digital ownership into physical documents from the Vanuatu government land authority. All energy on Satoshi Island will be sourced from renewable sources, with the island's team stating that they will not focus on cryptocurrency mining but plan to use solar panels built on the roofs of houses to power the entire island community on a shared grid. According to the official website, only 21,000 NFTs have been created, which means that only 21,000 people can reside on the island. The first batch of citizenship will be distributed to early supporters of the project through an airdrop in the first quarter of this year, with the remaining NFTs to be released later.
By early 2023, NFT citizen holders will be able to start living on the island or rent out their homes to short- or long-term tourist visitors. The city appears to be highly technologically advanced and its coastal location adds to its appeal. What are your thoughts on "Satoshi Island"? |
