"I saw something today that made me reflect, and I want to share it with you all while also warning those of us who enjoy gambling to be cautious and not go overboard. As an older friend said, when it comes to gambling, we should play within our limits, and we mustn't go overboard! Although the incident I'm about to share doesn't involve loss of life, it is still quite serious to me.
Here's what happened: When I was in school, there were twin brothers in my class. The younger brother never had much interest in studying, rarely did his homework, and getting punished by the teachers had become a daily routine for him. His older twin brother, who was born just a few minutes earlier, was diligent and hardworking, and the difference between the two of them was like night and day. Surprisingly, after graduation, there was a significant reversal in their lives. After we graduated, I lost touch with them, but we still followed each other on social media. However, at some point, I stopped seeing updates from the older brother, and it was only through the younger brother's posts that I learned that, after their father's passing, he took over the family business and was running it quite successfully. As for the older brother, I had no idea what had happened to him. I was curious at times but didn't bother to investigate.
Just today, I saw a post from the younger brother, which revealed what had been happening. It turns out that his older brother had developed a gambling addiction many years ago, and it became so severe that he borrowed money from loan sharks. His gambling habits spiraled out of control, and he even stole their mother's car to use as collateral for a loan. After they demanded a ransom to return the car (which he didn't pay), the younger brother intervened and forcibly reclaimed the car. This incident caused their mother to sever ties with the older brother. Currently, the whereabouts of the older brother are unknown, and his life and safety are uncertain. The lack of information about his older brother also explains why I hadn't seen any updates from him, as revealed in the younger brother's post.
While this story doesn't involve a loss of life, it deeply touched me. These twin brothers used to be inseparable, and their bond was exceptionally strong. When the younger brother faced punishment from teachers, the older brother was always there to help him. What's remarkable is that the older brother was an excellent student in class, with outstanding grades, while the younger brother didn't excel academically and had a reputation for not doing his homework. It's shocking to see such different outcomes for them as adults. This story serves as a reminder that when it comes to gambling, we must maintain a healthy attitude, play within our limits, and not let it take over our lives. We must remember that gambling addiction can have varying degrees of destructive impact on families.
