Last year, after the passing of NBA legend Bill Russell, the NBA decided to permanently retire the ""Number 6 jersey"" across all 30 NBA teams to honor his remarkable life as a player, coach, and civil rights leader. While this decision was met with unanimous agreement, it has also posed challenges for current players who are currently wearing the number 6 jersey, including NBA superstar LeBron James.

Although the NBA emphasized that the policy of permanently retiring the number 6 jersey would not affect current players wearing the number 6, this decision has still caused some concerns. From an outsider's perspective, voluntarily relinquishing the number 6 jersey to pay tribute to Russell might demonstrate a player's generosity and selflessness, highlighting their character and sportsmanship. Thus, unintentionally, the decision carries a moral undertone.

LeBron James, as one of the players wearing the number 6 jersey, ultimately decided to switch to the number 23 jersey. While James is not the first player to voluntarily give up the number 6 jersey, his status as one of the most influential NBA players magnified the significance and impact of his decision. This move also averted potential controversies that could arise once the number 6 jersey is retired in the upcoming season, preserving his public image.

However, some people have expressed reservations about James switching back to the number 23. A year ago, James changed from the number 23 to the number 6 with the aim of winning another championship with the Lakers, as he had already won a championship with the Lakers wearing the number 23 jersey. Due to the team's performance, this ambition was not realized. Critics argue that James' jersey number choice was too conventional, as he could have opted for more creative choices like the number 0 or 30, representing his two sons. His eldest son is set to join the NBA next year, making a father-son duo in the league, and choosing these numbers could have added a unique touch.

I always feel that retiring jerseys is a bit of asking the players for something difficult.

Has LeBron James also entered the retired life? Many basketball stars are starting to get older.

But I think the jersey number is just a number; the key is that it represents one's own jersey.

In fact, a player's greatness is not determined by whether their jersey is retired or not. Whether Kobe's or Wade's jerseys should be retired? I think this is just a formality.
