Cheteshwar Pujara’s dedication to playing test matches has made him the lone player in the test squad, who plays for a county team in England, and there too, only test matches. Therefore, without a substantial performance in the shorter format, there is no way Pujara would ever find a chance in the ODI/ T20 squad.

Simply because he is not cut for short format.
India has a large pool of gifted batsmen, who have performed in short format to prove and justify their positions. Not just the current pool, there are a ton of youngsters who are awaiting their international call in ODI after proving themselves in the domestic circuit. With so much competition, Cheteshwar has no chance of getting selected.
