1. **Choosing Your Seat:** Players select seats at an empty blackjack table. When the previous round ends (and there are still other players at the table), players should show cash to the dealer and inform them of the chip denomination they require. The dealer will take the cash and exchange it for equivalent chips. Then, the player can place bets and start the game!

2. **Seating Strategy:** If you're a beginner in the game of blackjack, it's advisable to avoid picking the leftmost seat at the table (often called ""third base""). This position is right next to the dealer, and when the dealer reveals a 5 or other favorable cards, the pressure on the third base player can instantly increase. Of course, while this advice doesn't have absolute logic, it's essential to avoid becoming overly confident that you'll always win.

3. **Dealing Cards:** At a blackjack table in the casino, ""silence is golden"" might be entirely ignored. Even though playing blackjack doesn't require verbal communication, staying silent and not interacting with others will make you blend into the crowd. If you want to hit, you can lightly tap the table with your fingers or gently scrape the table with your playing cards. If you want to stand, place your cards face down, stack your chips on top of them, or cover your cards with your hand. If you want to split pairs, place an additional bet and extend two fingers to indicate. If you want to double down, place another bet and extend one finger.

4. **Assuming the Dealer Has a 10:** In the event that the dealer's face-up card is a 10, the player's chances of winning aren't very high. However, this section aims to introduce you to basic strategy. Typically, the player's hole card is more likely to be a 10. If the dealer's face-up card is 6 or lower, the dealer has a high chance of busting. This is a fundamental rule. You should consider both your hand and the cards in other players' hands. If your hand totals 16 and the dealer's face-up card is 6, it's advisable to stand. Unless the dealer's hole card is an Ace, they must continue drawing cards. But if your hand totals 16, and the dealer's face-up card is 7... well, it's up to you. If you're the sole player at the table or have a group of ""lucky teammates,"" the dealer or teammates might be willing to impart some ""valuable lessons.""

5. **Knowing When to Quit:** Like other card games, blackjack has its ups and downs. Even a blind person can tell when luck isn't on their side—your chip stack keeps shrinking! If you're a spectator, you can still observe and figure out which table has luckier players. One piece of wisdom is to minimize losses when you're losing. Winning twice with $5 bets and losing once with a $10 bet means you're even! If you've been winning several rounds in a row and then start losing, reduce your bets to the table's minimum until your luck turns around before increasing your bets again.

6. **Unwritten Habits:** Another unwritten habit is to stand when your hand totals ""hard 17"" or higher but not stand on ""soft 17."" When you have a soft Ace (A), you can double down, such as 2-A, 3-5/6, A, 4-A, 5-4/5/6, A, 6-A, 7-3 to 6.
