Baccarat is usually played with 8 decks of cards shuffled together in a shoe. In each round, both the banker and player will receive at least two cards but not more than three. The first and third cards are dealt to the "player," while the second and fourth cards go to the "banker." Whether a third card is drawn, also known as "drawing" or "hitting," is determined by specific drawing rules. Unlike blackjack, in baccarat, you can bet on the banker or the player without any restrictions.
Baccarat Card Counting Techniques - Point Calculation
In baccarat, the point values are as follows:
- Aces are counted as 1 point.
- Cards 2 to 9 have their face values, meaning a 2 of hearts is worth 2 points, a 3 of spades is worth 3 points, and so on.
- Tens, Jacks, Queens, and Kings are worth 0 points (some casinos might count them as 10 points).
When calculating the total point value of cards, if the sum exceeds 9, only the units digit is considered. For example, if you have an 8 and a 9, the total point value is 7 (8 + 9 = 17, and only the unit digit, 7, matters).
The highest possible point value in baccarat is 9 (e.g., a 4 and a 5, 4 + 5 = 9), and the lowest is 0, also known as "baccarat" (e.g., a 10 and a Queen, 10 + 10 = 20, but only the unit digit, 0, matters).
Lucky Six:
In recent years, most Macau casinos have introduced "Lucky Six" into baccarat. Players can bet on whether the banker or player will win with a total point value of 6. If a player bets on both the banker and "Lucky Six," the banker must win with 6 points for the player to win the "Lucky Six" bet.
Payouts:
Payouts in baccarat depend on the first two cards dealt, and the final result is determined based on the drawing rules, including the point totals. Players can bet on either the banker or player side, and if they achieve a point total of 8 or 9 (a "natural"), it determines the winner between banker and player.
