What methods do you use to assess your luck?

When I gamble, I always have a practice of testing my luck. I start by placing small bets to see how things go. If I can make a profit with small bets, I gradually increase my stakes. I play like this for a while, but I never exceed two hours of playing time. On the other hand, if I start losing with small bets at the beginning, I'll quietly observe for a while and assess my judgment. If I feel that my approach and reasoning are fundamentally sound, that's when I take another chance. Do you all also experiment with your luck this way when gambling? If not, are there any other methods?
