According to Le Parisien, during Sunday's training session, Kylian Mbappe tested two different masks and refrained from heading the ball.
Mbappe suffered a nose injury on June 17 against Austria and did not play in the group stage match against the Netherlands. The day after the draw against the Netherlands, Mbappe scored two goals and provided two assists in a friendly match against Padernborn U21.
Le Parisien reported that on Sunday local time, Mbappe participated in France's training session. He was the last to take the field, wearing a new mask that resembled swimming goggles. After basic warm-ups, during a shooting drill involving substitute players, Mbappe requested a mask change midway through the exercise. He appeared to experience discomfort again at certain points and continuously worked to readjust the protective gear.
Clearly, he needs to adapt and find a method that doesn't require frequent adjustments. After temporarily addressing his aiming issues during shooting practice, he celebrated his goals by discarding the mask, later retrieving it without putting it back on.
The French team's training concluded in a cheerful atmosphere, with Mbappe and Pavard joking around extensively, all under the close scrutiny of coach Didier Deschamps and his assistants.
They couldn't have missed the fact that the French captain didn't head the ball. While speculation 48 hours before the game is premature, this detail is not insignificant. |
