Transfers are common in the football world, and it's rare for players to stay with one team forever. Generally, when a player scores against their former club, they usually choose not to celebrate to show respect. However, there are exceptions, like Arsenal's Havertz, who scored twice against Chelsea and celebrated with a slide. This sparked criticism from Chelsea fans.
Arsenal recently defeated Chelsea 5-0 in a London derby, with Havertz, who transferred from Chelsea to Arsenal, scoring two goals. However, his celebration after the first goal, featuring his signature face gesture and slide, stirred controversy.
Normally, players refrain from celebrating against their former clubs, especially considering Havertz's departure from Chelsea wasn't contentious. When he left, he even wrote a heartfelt letter thanking Chelsea fans for their support. Therefore, Havertz's celebration seemed out of place, and it's unclear what happened behind the scenes.
Havertz's post-match social media photo of his celebration further angered Chelsea fans, who believe he shouldn't have done it. Some expressed feeling hurt because they supported Havertz. As an Arsenal fan, I understands the sentiments of Chelsea fans, having encountered similar situations before. Therefore, in my opinion, unless relations have soured completely, players shouldn't celebrate against their former clubs.
What's your opinion on Havertz's celebration? Feel free to share! |
