Preface:

The speed at which online poker players bet often reveals many secrets. We know that when playing poker online, you have two options for actions.

One is to click on a button displayed on the screen only when it's your turn, whether it's Bet, Call, Raise, or Fold.

The other way is to use the "pre-selection" function, using the "Act in turn" buttons. For example, you can choose to automatically check/fold or bet/raise before it's your turn to bet, so that when it's your turn, the system will temporarily execute your pre-selected decision automatically.

Now let's see what your opponent's betting speed can tell you. A small warning, if your opponent is playing poker on two tables at the same time, the situation may be very different, and the experience here may not apply.

1. Choosing Check after a long thought indicates a weaker hand.
Often, your opponent lacks confidence in their hand at this point. They hope everyone will follow along with Check so that they don't have to bet to see the next community card. They intentionally appear to be deep in thought, but ultimately choose to Check. If their intention is to Check-Raise, they wouldn't take such a long time before checking.

2. Choosing Bet after a long thought indicates a stronger hand.
In this case, your opponent's hand may be quite good. Their long thought may be to make you think they are uncertain about their hand, thus underestimating their hand and continuing to bet instead of giving up. When betting in the Turn or River, using automatic Bet or Raise indicates a very strong hand.

3. Pay attention.
Remember, the betting limits are at their maximum in the last two rounds, and by this point, almost all community cards are visible, and everyone has information about four or five cards. If your opponent uses the "Act in turn" function, making a Bet or Raise decision before it's their turn to bet, it shows they have extreme confidence in their hand. They are openly calling, seeing if you dare to follow (it's a bit of a bluffing tactic). Most of the time, your opponent's hand is really strong at this point, especially if they Bet or Raise automatically in the River, their hand is likely to be the nuts.

Quickly Checking usually indicates a weaker hand, but be aware if their intention is to Check-Raise.

In conclusion, the above points are generally applicable when facing unfamiliar opponents online, as you have no other information about them. If you want to understand your opponents' mindset better, also make sure not to reveal your own secrets. Try to take roughly the same amount of time to handle each hand, or deliberately mix up your time to confuse your opponents. You'll need to figure these out for yourself.
