Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis faced the Philadelphia 76ers today, delivering 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists, leading the team to a 108-96 victory and setting a record of 54 consecutive "double-doubles," becoming the first player in the history of the league since the merger of the ABA and NBA.
In today's game against the 76ers, Kings center Domantas Sabonis, with 5 minutes and 24 seconds left in the third quarter, easily scored 2 points after picking up a loose ball under the basket, officially achieving his astonishing record of 54 consecutive "double-doubles."
Since the merger of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and NBA in 1976, the previous record for consecutive "double-doubles" was held by current Miami Heat star forward Kevin Love with 53 games.
According to ESPN, before the merger of the two leagues, the player with the most consecutive "double-doubles" was Wilt Chamberlain with 227 games.
Sabonis recorded his 25th triple-double of the season today, making him the fifth player in NBA history, following Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Russell Westbrook, and Nikola Jokic, to achieve 25 or more triple-doubles in a single season.
Kings head coach Mike Brown not only praised his players but also expressed his dissatisfaction, saying, "Sabonis has had such an extraordinary year, obviously he should be an All-Star, obviously he should be in discussions for All-NBA first team, and obviously he should be in discussions for MVP." |
