The international friendly matches just ended a few days ago. Whenever it comes to international friendlies, powerful clubs always have numerous key players who represent their national teams. Therefore, when these players leave their clubs to play for their countries, the coaches of various clubs pray fervently that these key players won't get injured, affecting their team's lineup and strategy. However, reality is often cruel, as the "FIFA virus" lurks everywhere, causing injuries whenever there are matches.
It's inevitable that national team-level players are mostly key players for powerhouse clubs because national teams naturally select the strongest players. Conversely, if a powerhouse club lacks many national team-level players, it may not be considered top-tier. In the recently concluded international friendlies, English Premier League powerhouse Manchester City can be considered the biggest victim, with many crucial players getting injured.
For instance, Manchester City's right-back Walker got injured in the first match against Brazil, while the center-back Stones got injured and had to leave the field in the tenth minute of the second match against Belgium. As the injured players were all from Manchester City, England manager Southgate faced heavy criticism from Manchester City fans, accusing him of failing to protect the players by letting injured players play, ultimately leading to more serious consequences.
In response, Southgate expressed his helplessness, stating that he had considered everything and believed that the first match was not too intense for Stones to handle, so he let him start. Then he cited examples from other teams: "We did what the Dutch did with Van Dijk tonight. When Haaland and Odegaard are with the national team, Norway also starts them, and the Dutch team also started De Ligt continuously. It seems that whenever there is a problem, people always criticize England. If he has a problem, of course, we will be disappointed. It seems to be in the groin area, so we have to wait and see."
In fact, injuries are something that neither the coach nor the players want to see. Injuries are unpredictable, and if they occur, all they can do is accept their misfortune. |
