One of the champions who helped the Golden State Warriors win the championship in 2022, Otto Porter Jr., announced his retirement today (12th). According to reports, the 30-year-old was recently waived by the Utah Jazz. Despite many fans hoping for "OPJ" to return to the Warriors, Otto Porter Jr. stated in his retirement announcement that he decided to retire because his body no longer allowed him to perform at the level he expected.
In a post released by the Jazz, Otto Porter Jr. said, "Over the past 11 years, I've had the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA, and even winning an NBA championship." "Unfortunately, my body no longer allows me to perform at the level I expect, so I've decided to retire."
"OPJ" has been in the league for 11 years and is only 30 years old. He was selected by the Washington Wizards with the third overall pick in the first round of the 2013 draft. Throughout his career, he has played for the Wizards, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, and Toronto Raptors.
His most notable achievement was helping the Golden State Warriors reclaim the championship in the 2022 season. During that year, he played 63 regular-season games, averaging 22.1 minutes per game, with 8.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
He was also a favorite player of Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Initially, there were expectations that the Warriors might make a move for him after he was waived by the Jazz. However, Otto Porter Jr. chose to retire due to injury concerns.
